Early life
Salai Hla Kun was born on August 15, 1959, in Thayet Hospital, Myanmar. His parents were U Aung Tin and Daw Pan Shein, belonging to the Asho Chin tribe. His Parents were Buddhist. His father, U Aung Tin, was died in 1963. His mother was converted to Seventh Day Adventist in 1968 at the City Effort of Thayet Township, and she died in 2021. Salai Hla Kun was baptized into the Seventh Day Adventist Church in 1972. He has two brothers and four sisters. His eldest brother is U Hla Ngwe, his second brother is U Hla Lun, and his sisters are Daw Hla May, Daw Mai Thein, Daw Htwe Htwe Khaing and Daw Hla Po. They all are converted to the Seventh-day Adventists.
Education
To begin his education, he attended the Western part quarter of Thayet Township Elementary Government School. At that school, he studied for his early education from K.G to Grade; furthermore, he moved to Thayet Township No.1, Government High School for Grade 5 to Grade 10. During 1976 and 1977, he faced a problem for sitting final examination on Sabbath day. So he decided to go to the Burma Union Bible Seminary in Myaung Mya Township, Ayeyarwaddy Region. At that Bible seminary, he studied the Ministerial Training Courses from the year 1978 to 1982. After completing his MTC, he was assigned as a general worker of the Central Myanmar Mission Office as a general worker. From 1994 to 1997, he studied B.A. in Religion Courses at Myanmar Union Adventist Seminary in Myaung Mya, by summer school program. So he graduated his first degree on March 1997 at MUAS.
Ministry and Marriage
When he Finished the Ministerial Training Course, MTC, he was re-assigned by the Central Myanmar mission as a general worker, children Sabbath school leader and AY leader at Taung Ngu Church in Central Myanmar Mission, from 1982 to 1983. At the beginning of the year 1984, the mission leaders assigned him to go and conduct the evangelistic effort meetings at The northern part of Rakhine State under Pastor Khin Maung Nyein accompanied by seven persons. During 1984 we conducted the evangelistic effort meetings at eight places in Ann Township. By the power of the Holy Spirit, the team won 250 new souls by the commitment of eight efforts. So they need church pastors to lead at that new places. From 1985 to 1993, he was assigned as a church pastor for the new six places for nine years together with Nyan Tin, his friend. During that nine years, he got another 200 new souls at that Northern part of Rakhine State. While serving as a church pastor at Paung Daw Oo village, he noticed that he needed a partner to serve together in His vineyard. So he married Htwe Yee, a Chin Lady from his tribe from Kyauk Phyu Church, Rakhine State, on June 1, 1986.
Now they have three sons and one daughter. At the beginning of 1994, CMAS, the Central Myanmar Adventist Seminary, the only Mission High School, needed a Mathematics Teacher urgently. So the Mission President, Sidney Gyi, called him from Rakhine State to be assigned as a Mathematical teacher at Central Myanmar Adventist Seminary. The CMAS church assigned him as a church Treasurer for the year 1995. In 1996, the CMAS assigned him as school Treasurer until 2002. He was ordained to the gospel ministry in March 2002. In 2003, he served as a school Registrar for only one year at CMAS. In 2004, at the year-end mission meeting, the mission leaders elected him as a Sabbath School Department Director of CMM for two years. Moreover, in 2005, at the year-end mission meeting, the CMM EC assigned him as a Mission Stewardship Department Director plus Sabbath School Department Director for five years. At the end of 2010, the CMM Session, he was assigned as a director of Stewardship and Ministerial Secretary Department. Furthermore, at the mid-year meeting of 2013, the CMM EC assigned him as a Mission Executive Secretary and Ministerial Secretary. At the end of 2015, in another election, he was re-elected as an Executive Secretary of Central Myanmar Mission for the next term, five years.
