Early Life (1969-1975)
Naw Sharon Sein was born on May 21, 1969 at the East Yangon General Hospital in Botataung Township, Myanmar. Her father, Herbert Sein (1938-20—) was born at Meiktila City, Central Burma, Mandalay Region and her mother, Priscilla Sein (1942-20—) was born at Shwe Nyaung Bin Village, Thandaunggy Township, Taungngu District, Myanmar. Her parents belong to the tribe of Karen and Pa’O. Both of her Parents are members of Seventh-day Adventists and they are retired workers of Myanmar Union Mission. Her father was a director of Stewardship Department, MYUM and her mother was a director of Education Department, MYUM. She has three siblings, Birdie Sein (deceased), Saw Jerry Berty, and Faustina Sein (adopted).
Education and Marriage (1976-1996)
Naw Sharon Sein started school on June 1, 1975. Since there was no Seventh-day Adventist Church School at Elementary level, she attended the government school from KG to grade 2. In 1979 her parents accepted the call to work as teachers at Mountain View Academy (now Central Myanmar Adventist Seminary), Tarbyay, Taungngu District, Central Myanmar Mission. From 1979 to 1981, Sharon Sein studied grade 3 to 5 at Mountain View Academy (now CMAS). It was her first time to study at Seventh-day Adventist Church School. She was baptized by Pr. Rual Chhina in April, 1981 at Kyauk Taing Village, Taungngu District, Central Myanmar Mission.
In 1982, her parents were assigned to go back and work at Union Bible Seminary (now MUAS), Myaungmya, Myanmar. So she studied her grade 5 to 8 at Junior Bible Seminary, (now Ayeyarwaddy Adventist Seminary) from 1982 to 1984. She studied her grade 9-11 at Union Bible Seminary (now MUAS) from 1984-1988. She passed her grade 10 (Division High School Certificate) affiliated of Spicer Memorial College, Pune, India in 1987.
In 1988, Myanmar Union Mission sent her parents to the Philippines for their further study and the whole family went to the Philippines. She studied at Philippine Union College (now Adventist University of the Philippines) for her bachelor degree from 1988 to 1993. On March 21,1993, she earned a degree, Bachelor of Science in Secretarial Administration (Secretarial Education) from Philippines Union College (now AUP) at Putting Kahoy, Silang, Cavite, Philippines. In April, 1993, after graduated from college, she joined Adventist International Institute of Advanced Studies (AIIAS) for her masteral degree. She earned a Master of Arts in Education-Teaching at AIIAS, Silang, Cavite, Philippines on March 20, 1996.
She married Saw Dhay Htoo Sein, a born- Seventh-day Adventist, the Son of U Shwe Thein Paw and Daw Mu Tu, on December 4, 1996 in Myaungmya, Myanmar. They are blessed with two daughters. The eldest daughter Naw Reitha Sein was born on October 15, 2000 and the youngest daughter Naw Marissa Sein was born on October 29, 2003.
Career/Ministry (1997-2021)
She is a person with a genuine desire to serve the Church. When she finished has Master Degree she returned to Myanmar and served as a bonus teacher at MUAS from May, 1996. She was regularized as an instructor on January 1, 1997 and she served as an instructor of MUAS for 5 years (from 1997 to 2002). She took leave of absence from April 2002 to 2003 during her husband study period at AIIAS as she had to accompany her husband there.
After she returned to Myanmar she served again at MUAS and she served as Assistant Professor and Associate Professor from June 1, 2004 to 2010. On June 1, 2010, She was appointed as a registrar of MUAS and she served as a MUAS Registrar from June 1 to December 31, 2010. She served as the Dean of MUAS Education Department from 2011 to 2013.
On May1, 2013, she was called to serve at Yangon Adventist Seminary and she worked as a teacher and a librarian at YAS from May 1, 2013 to March 31, 2016. On April 1, 2016, she was called to serve as a teacher at South East Adventist Seminary and she served as a teacher and librarian at SEAS for four years, from 2016 to 2020.
In 2020, she was called to serve at South East Mission, Myanmar as the departmental director of Adventist Children Ministries, Adventist Family Ministry, Ministerial Spouses Association and Women’s Ministries department. During the two years of serving the Lord as a departmental director, she participated in giving trainings, preaching and attending the trainings and seminars given in local and from SSD and GC. She has learned many things and many lessons from her ministries. She also participated in Humanitarian Aids program. Naw Sharon Sein feels blessed to be in God’s service. She has dedicated herself to serve the Lord until the end.
Author: Naw Sharon Sein graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Secretarial Administration – emphasis Secretarial Education from Philippine Union College (now AUP), Philippines and a Master’s degree in Education – Teaching Emphasis from Adventist International Institute of Advanced Studies, Philippines. She served as a teacher, a librarian (YAS, SEAS), an instructor, assistant and associate professor, registrar and dean of Education Department, MUAS, Myaungmya, Myanmar and the departmental director of South East Mission in Adventist Children Ministries, Family Ministries, Ministerial Spouses Association, and Women’s Ministries department of South East Mission, Myanmar. She and her husband have two grown children.
