Nang Khen Thang

(AUTOBIOGRAPHY)

( 1968 – Present 15th October 2021)

                Nang Khen Thang, M.A. Ed. , is the Treasurer of Upper Myanmar Mission (October, 2017- ) and former Chief Accountant of Myanmar Union Mission of Seventh-day Adventist Church (2011 – September, 2017).

Early Life    

Nang Khen Thang was born on March 23, 1968, in Sezang Villege, Tedim Township, North Chin State, Burma (now Myanmar). His parents were U Cin Suang and Daw Niang Khaw Man, belonging to the Zomi Chin tribe. His parents were Non-Christians. They lived in Sezang Village, Tedim Township, North Chin State. His father was a carpenter.  He had 10 siblings, Ngul KhanMang, Dim Don Cing, Kham Khen Do, Lang Za Dim, Thang Lian Khai, Cing Za Khawl, Man Hau Niang and Nang Khen Thang. Ngul Khan Mang is working now as an estate keeper in the campus of Upper Myanmar Mission Headquarters. Dim Don Cing is  the wife of  Tun Kap Thang (Baptist) Kham Khen Do (Baptist) and family are living now in New York, USA. Lang Za Dim and Man Hau Niang with her son Kam Khan Cin are faithful  Seventh-day Adventist Church members in Sezang Yatkwit, Tedim Township. Cing Za Khawl is the wife of Rev. Thang Cin Mang, the worldwide General Secretary of Evangelical Baptist Church. Thang Lian Khai is the the director of Sabbath School/Personal Ministries Department of Upper Myanmar Mission of Seventh-day Adventists. He has two sons and the elder one’s name is Suang Sian Kim and the younger one is Vum Sian Mang. His elder son is studying in Myanmar Union Adventist Seminary, Myaungmya in College 2nd year with online class. His younger son is studying in Ayeyarwady Adventist Seminary, Myaungmya in Grade 10 with online class.

Education and Marriage

                Nang Khen Thang, went to State Primary School in Leilum Village, two and half miles away from his village on foot for KG from 1974-1975 and studied in State Primary School in Sezang Village from standard 1 through standard 4 from 1975 to 1979. Then he went to the State Middle School in Lawibual Ward, Tedim township,  three miles away from his village on foot  from standard 5 through 7 from 1979 to 1983. Because of his brother Kham Khen Do’s motivation, he has a chance to Study in Junior Bible Seminary (Now called Ayeyarwady Adventist Seminary) bring him from Sezang Village to Rangon (Now Called Yangon) by his oldest brother Saya Josepth Mangno and then he went to Junior Bible Seminar in Mosokwin Road, Myaungmya for standard 7 from 1983 to 1984. At that time he joined Baptismal Class in Union Bible Seminary for one semester and then he was baptized by Pr. Tin Tun. He went to the State Middle School which located in Cinmual Yatkwit, Falam Myo, Chin State for Standard 8 from 1984-1985. At that School he entered for the competition of essay writing the topic “The National Day” and got 3rd prize. Then he again entered for the competition of essay writing the topic “The Independence Day” and got 1st prize. Then because of his brother Pr. Thang Lian Khai’s motivation he studied again in Union Bible Seminary, Myaungmya from Standard 9 through Plus 2 from 1985 to 1989.

                In1991 his brother Pr. Thang Lian Khai motivate him to study at Spicer Memorial College in India. So he went to Spicer Memorial College and he began to study with 2nd plan from June, 1991 to March, 1994. Then he went to Myanmar Union Adventist Seminary  for 1 Summer and  1st Semester of 1994-1995 School Year. Then he went back to Spicer Memorial College 2nd time from October, 1994 through March, 1996. His major was Religious Philosophy and minor was Applied Theology and graduated with  BLA (Bachelor of  Liberal Arts) in 1996.

                He continued his education for Master of Arts in Education with the program of Distance Learning Centre from AIIAS at Myanmar Union Mission Headquarters from the summer of 2000 to the summer of 2010 and graduated for MA. Ed. in 2010.                                                                                                                                                                                     

                After he graduated from Spicer Memorial College in 1996, he married Kai Sawm Cing on March 4, 1999, in Sezang Village, Tiddim Township, North Chin State. Their children, the elder son Suang Sian Kim was born in January 18, 2001 and younger son Vum Sian Mang was born on March 12, 2004.

Ministry

                Nang Khen Thang was a very spiritual person with a keen desire to serve the church. After Plus 2 (DCEC) examination in Union Bible Seminary he served as school teacher (School Contract and Mission Contract) at Junior Bible Seminary, Lawibual Veeng, Teddim for 2 years from 1989 to 1991 School Years.1 Then when he graduated from Spicer Memorial College, he returned to Myanmar. He participant in Hiangzing Effort, located in Teddim Township, North Chin State. The speaker was Pr. Do Za Thang and Conducted on November 13 – 26, 1996.2 Eight families accepted Seventh-day Adventist believed and 18 new believers were baptized on November 23, 1996 and established Seventh-day Adventist Church. He served as Temporary Pastor at Hiangzing from December, 1996 to May, 1997.3 Then he served as a teacher evangelist at Tedim Adventist Seminary (Now call Anderson Adventist Seminary), Lawibual Quarter, Teddim, North Chin State from June, 1997 through May, 2002.4 Meanwhile he served as take care at Sezang Adventist Believers group especially for Sabbath worship.                 He was a school cashier & treasurer in Tedim Adventist Seminary from 1998 to 2002 School Years, UMM.5 In June, 2002, he was transferred to Tonzang Adventist Seminary for a school teacher and Church Pastor in Tonzang Church for one year.6&7 Then in 2003, he was appointed as Principal and Church Pastor of Pyidawtha Adventist Seminary for one year.8

                In 2004, he was elected and transferred as Accountant in Upper Myanmar Mission Headquarter Office, Pyin Oo Lwin ( Maymyo) and served up to April, 2011 and served 7 years as Accountant.9

                In May 2011, he was elected and transferred to Yangon as the Chief Account of Myanmar Union Mission and serving more than 6 years as Chief Accountant.10 Then in October, 2017 he appointed as the Treasurer in Upper Myanmar Mission, Pyin Oo Lwin for up to 2021.11

Legacy

                Nang Khen Thang made some contributions to the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Myanmar. When he was transferred from Upper Myanmar Mission, Treasury Department of Myanmar Union using Sun Accounting Software. Then in 2013 he started to used SunPlus Accounting Software in Myanmar Union Mission Treasury Department. He also encouraged all of Missions and Secondary School to used Sun Accounting Software even most of them are using manual hand writing ledger. So he started to travelled to some Missions and Secondary School like Central Myanmar Mission, South East Mission, Ayeyarwady Adventist Seminary, Central Myanmar Adventist Seminary, South East Adventist Seminary, Anderson Adventist Seminary and Upper Myanmar Adventist Seminary and installed for them Sun Accounting Software.
