Kham Suan Mung

(AUTOBIOGRAPHY)

Early Life

Pastor Kham Suan Mung was born on March 7, 1961, in Tedim Myo, Northern Chin State. His parents were U Gin Za Do and Daw Nian Ngaih Niang who belong to the Chin tribe. They were deities and their occupation was farming or( cultivator). He had four siblings: two brothers and two sisters. They are Vung Ngaih Dim, Gin Go Thang, Cing Ngaih Hau, Khen Sawm Pau and Kham Suan Mung was the youngest son. He is the only Seventh-day Adventist in his family. He was baptized into Seventh-day Adventist Church on March 4, 1973, by Pastor Than Khuma in Cikha Myo, Northern Chin State.

Education and Marriage

Kham Suan Mung was educated in government school from KG to 5th standard in Cikha Myo. He continued his education from 6th standard to 9th standard in Upper Myanmar Adventist Seminary, Kyothonepin, Kalaymyo, Sagaing Region, between 1976-79. In 1980-81, He studied his 10th standard (DHSC) Division High School Certificate in Mountain View Adventist Seminary, which is in Tarbyay, Thandaung township, Kayin State. After completing 10th standard, he continued his education at Myaungmya Bible Seminary from 11th standard to MTC (Ministerial Training Course) from 1982 to 1986. He graduated from his MTC (Ministerial Training Course) in 1986. For all his school years he worked hard and supported himself in terms of finance, and he obtained BA Religion (Bachelor of Arts in Religion) in 1997 through Summer Studies. On 17 October 2004, he graduated from Adventist International Institute of Advanced Studies (AIIAS) with a Master of Ministry (M.Min).

Between 1977 to 1986, he spent every summer holiday as a Student Literature Evangelist (ST. LE) for 9 summers straight. In 1995, he married Daw Cing Hau Don, daughter of U Khup Khan Thang who was the elder of Kapteel Adventist Church and Daw Cing Za Man at Kapteel Village by Pastor Malsawma. Pastor he has two daughters and one son; Niang Sian Nem, Do Sian Piang and Man Sian Nuam.

Career/ Ministry

He was granted his first posting in Mankring, Myitkyina township, Kachin State in 1990-1991. He conducted an evangelistic meeting in Myitkyina and as a result of it, two people were baptized. In 1991-1996, he was called to serve as a middle school principal and evangelist at Kapteel Village. During these five years, he conducted evangelistic meetings at 11 places and 8 people were baptized. He took care of 10 Churches which are in the domain of Kapteel Adventist Church. In 1996-1998, he was transferred to Sawbwayeshin, Kalay township, Sagaing Region as a Middle school principal and evangelist. In 1998-2002, he transferred to Mohnyin Myo, Kachin State for evangelist in Upper Myanmar Mission. He was ordained to the Gospel Ministry on January 24, 2001. After two years, he was appointed as a Director of the Publishing Department at Mandalay in 2003 to 2006.

He continued as Publishing Director in Headquarters of Upper Myanmar Mission of Seventh-day Adventist till 2010. During his tenure as Publishing Director, not only he promoted and recruited a number of lay members and Student Literature Evangelists (ST LE) but also, he conducted regular promotions at all circle pillars and churches once a year. Additionally, he conducted all department seminar training. In 2011-2015, he was appointed as a director of Stewardship in headquarters of Upper Myanmar Mission of Seventh-day Adventist during which he promoted Tithe and offering to every church twice a year. In 2016, he was appointed as the director of the Publishing Department again as well as Secretary of the Ministerial department. With this scope, he has been serving in the ministry until now.

He led 44 Evangelistic Meetings as the main speaker of it and converted 174 people have been already baptized. These are the places that have successful efforts done by Pr. Kham Suan Mung: (1) Suangbem Village, Tonzang Circle – 31 Baptized (2010). (2) Cikha Myo, Tonzang Circle – 23 Baptized (2011). (3) Pyidawtha Village, Kalaymyo Circle – 22 Baptized (2017). (4) Samata, Mindat Circle – 17 Baptized. (5) Hanthawady, Kalay Circle, Magwe Region – 17 Baptized (2018). (6) Mayan Village, Kachin Circle – 8 Baptized. (7) Lishee Myo, Tamu Circle – 23 Baptized (2018). He has baptized in total 338 souls during his career.

New Fields

Evangelism is Pastor Kham Suan Mung’s strong point and favorite ministry. He is passionate to go to new fields as an evangelist, he could not sleep or eat without doing evangelism. Phui village is one of the new fields that he led, located in Mindat Township, South part of the Chin State. There are 10 church members who have been baptized. Another field that he has led is Hantharwady village, which is located in Gangaw Township, Magway Region. Among 1500 populations, 17 church members have been baptized, though there is no Church building and Mission house. Furthermore, he conducted an evangelism in a new field called Tan Pong village which is in Kanpalet Township, South part of the Chin State. In that village, he preached only for four nights as the villagers forbade and drove him away. For this reason, Pr. Kham Suan Mung and his team members had to turn back home. 

His Contribution/ Legacy

In March 8-10, 2013, he conducted Stewardship Training at Hpa-an Myo, Kayin State. And he continue March 11-12, 2013, Stewardship Training at Myanmar Union Adventist Seminary.

In May 22-25, 2013, Pastor Kham Suan Mung and his wife attended Division Wide Stewardship Convention at Bangkok, Thailand.

In July 14-16, 2014, he attended Division Wide Publishing Department Convention at Bangkok, Thailand.

In June 2016, he attended Division wide Publishing Advisory at Philippine.

In August 2017, he was invited as a delegate of Upper Myanmar Mission to attend the Myanmar Adventist Convention, which was held in Minnesota, United State of America.

Myanmar has been facing the crisis with the spread of COVID 19 Pandemic and political unrest in 2020-2021. Therefore, he is not able to travel to preach the gospel like mentioned above. Though he preaches online ministry by zoom and Facebook live. He also gave the Bible Study and prayer program for the lay members and non-Adventist using mobile phone.
